Mens Division 2 - Cup Final
Men’s Division One Top Four Cup Final – Busselton Vs Bunbury United
Busselton Division Two men finally capitulated to a determined Bunbury United side 1 – 0 in the President’s Cup Final at Forrest Park in Bunbury on Sunday. Bunbury evened the slate after losing to Busselton twice in the regular season and winning their South West Cup encounter on penalties.
Penalties were to be the deciding factor in this match as well, but not in extra time. A foul in the box gave Bunbury the lead in the first half and although Busselton were not playing badly, Bunbury made the most of their penalty shot. Unfortunately Busselton also had two penalties awarded and could not convert either one. As has been the case for the whole season, both team’s defensive lines have held firm and neither team could break through to post anymore score for the match.
Bunbury celebrated accordingly, a small consolation after losing the league to Busselton in earlier weeks. This ends the season’s campaign for the men’s sides, with only the unbeaten Division One women’s side to play out the South West Cup Final against Dynamos at the Busselton Hockey Stadium. The Esplanade Hotel players of the day for Busselton were Tony Fish in defence, Bill Parsons and Peter McClurg who had injury and illness against them on the day, but still performed beyond expectation.
